The 10th GTI Northeast Asia Tourism Forum was held in Hunchun City, Yanbian Prefecture, Jilin Province on 19-20 September 2024. Government officials, experts, scholars, and tourism enterprises’ leaders from Northeast Asian countries such as China, Russia, Republic of Korea, and Mongolia participated in the forum to jointly explore the future development of the tourism industry, discuss development plans and contribute to the high-quality development of Northeast Asian tourism.
The theme of this forum was "Pursuing the Marine Dream, Open for Win-Win - Exploring Northeast Asian Marine Wellness Tourism Cooperation". The Forum was co-organized by the GTI Secretariat, Jilin Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, Yanbian Prefecture Cultural Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau, and the Hunchun Municipal People's Government.
The Director of GTI Secretariat Mr. Lawrence Hoomyung Lee stated that the Forum's discussion on the development of tourism in Northeast Asia should contribute to further strengthening of cooperation, exploring new possibilities, and opportunities for cooperation in marine tourism in the region. The unique location of the GTR provides great potential for the development of marine and cruise tourism. By delving deeper into the potential of marine tourism, we can find the best practices and perfect opportunities to develop cooperation plans that contribute to achieving multi-destination tourism.
The Forum provided an update on the latest developments in the tourism sector in the GTI region. The discussions held may help the participating countries to elaborate on their strategic plans for cooperation to stimulate the development and sustainability of the tourism sector in NEA. The proposals presented during the Forum will later be submitted to the GTI Tourism Board for their consideration.
